Art School Maa
Art School Maa, founded in 1986, offers versatile arts education in Suomenlinna.
In its teaching, Maa emphasises interdisciplinarity, thinking and new forms in contemporary arts. Alongside visual arts methods, Maa’s teaching includes e.g. performance, sound art and critical theory.
In addition to teaching, Maa maintains project space Maa-Tila located in Sörnäinen, and organises art activities in the Helsinki metropolitan region and internationally.

News from Art School Maa 21.3.2025
In March 2025, Art School Maa begins a development project supported by the Kone Foundation, its aim being the launching of an art school of the future and redefining the operations of Maa. The development work will be done in relation to current pedagogical and societal issues and the current needs and changes in the art field.

4.-28.2.2025: first years' exhibition at Rikhardinkatu Library
"Feeling s o r e - arka(ainen) ruumis" is an exhibition by first year students:
The works explore themes of vulnerability, permanence, memory, and the quiet ache of existence. Through their photographs, they examine the delicate nature of the human body and the emotional scars that shape our experiences.

New open course this Spring: lino & etching by Dahlia El Broul
Come spend your Friday evenings this Spring making linocuts and etchings at Art School Maa!
The course is taught by Maa's drawing workshop teacher and artist Dahlia El Broul. The course is suitable for both beginners and anyone more experienced. The course is held in English.

Statements on Art School Maa’s situation
The cuts to the school’s operating grants endanger the future of Art School Maa – support diversity in art education. Kela's planned discontinuation of the study support has been corrected.
