Art School MAA will get a new headmaster

Visual artist (MA) Minna Henriksson has been selected as the new headmaster of the Art School MAA. She will start on the 1st of September 2020. Art School MAA is an experimental art school, where teaching is focused on working methods of contemporary art. In the Art School MAA, one can study on a three-year day programme and evening courses. The current headmaster Isse Karsten will retire from his post at the end of the summer. After his retirement, Karsten will devote his time entirely on artistic practice.

Minna Henriksson has studied art in Brighton, Helsinki and Malmö, and since then lived long periods in South-East Europe. In 2009 she returned to Helsinki and through her artwork began to confront with urgency to increasing nationalism and racism in Finland. She works with a disparate range of artistic media, including drawing and linocut. In 2017 she was awarded the Anni and Heinrich Sussmann Award for artistic work committed to the ideal of democracy, and antifascism.

Henriksson has taught art in various art schools in Finland and lectured internationally. She has been a regular teacher in the Art School Maa since 2010.

The board of Art School MAA emphasised in the decision the broad networks Henriksson has in the art and cultural field. She has long and extensive teaching experience as well as a clear vision on directing an art school.
